Are vaccines safe?
Vaccines are carefully monitored for safety. The most common side effects are mild, such as soreness or swelling where the shot was given. Serious allergic reactions are very rare. Discuss any concerns with your child’s provider.
Why do vaccinations begin so early?
Infants are especially vulnerable to serious infections. Vaccinations begin early to help protect children before they encounter vaccine-preventable diseases.
Can several vaccines overload my baby’s immune system?
No. Vaccines expose the immune system to only a small fraction of the antigens babies encounter in everyday life, while helping it build protection against serious diseases.
Does breastfeeding replace vaccinations?
No. Breastfeeding offers important protection, but it does not protect against every vaccine-preventable disease. Breastfed babies still need their recommended vaccinations.
What if my child has a mild illness?
Children can often be vaccinated when they have a mild illness. Your child’s provider should decide whether vaccination is appropriate at the visit.
Why are multiple doses sometimes needed?
Some vaccines require several doses to build protection, strengthen the response or maintain immunity over time. Every recommended dose matters.
